We have moved from pasting Google search URLs into DNS to pasting Microsoft Copilot chat URLs. A perfect archaeological record of how humans interact with AI assistants.
1. Private Microsoft Copilot chat URL pasted into DNS
This administrator asked Microsoft Copilot how to set up an SPF record. Copilot gave them the correct answer (`v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all`). Instead of copying the answer, they copied the URL of their private AI chat session โ complete with a `#:~:text=` text-fragment URL highlighting the exact answer โ and pasted that into their DNS. The Copilot session ID is now permanently baked into global DNS. A perfect fossil record of the AI era.
2. Saved the DNS warning modal text as a TXT record
When this user tried to save their DNS changes, their registrar threw a warning modal: "You have made changes to your domains default A or CNAME records which may cause your site to go offline. Are you sure you want to save your changes?" The user somehow selected and copied the modal text and it ended up saved as the TXT record value. An extraordinary accident of cursor placement.
